Project Potential offers intensive one-on-one case management and group support to youth ages 10 through 17 that are at high risk of delinquency and school drop out.
In addition, Project Potential provides educational advocacy (tutoring), Health Realization training (support groups) and role modeling (mentoring).
The goal of Project Potential is to reconnect youth to their positive behaviors through individualized advocacy services in Minneapolis' most economically disadvantaged schools and neighborhoods.
Project Potential also has two special initiatives:
Project Potential reduces criminal activity among low-level juvenile offenders, and increases school attendance for chronically truant students.
We assist youth in improving school attendance and behavior by showing them their own potential and assets, advocating on their behalf, supporting their families and strengthening community connections through group activities.
In 2009,
81% of participants in Project Potential's Truancy Intervention program improved school attendance.
79% of participants in Project Potential's Gang Intervention program reduced their involvement.
91% of participants of Project Potential's In-School Initiative improved school behavior.
The Link served 481 youth though Project Potential programming.
Hennepin County is a sponsoring agency of Project Potential.
My Story
Peace
My mom taught me to keep everybody
at a distance, and to fight for survival.
I came to The Link so I could balance
my need for survival with a peaceful
life. I have been an active member of
the Women Educating Women group for
three months, and I feel more comfortable
about myself and my surroundings.
I now have friends in my
neighborhood, and I go to school every
day.
