Lincoln Place

I was homeless from early August to late October in 2011. My mom and I were really close growing up and then as I got older things got really bad. She kicked me out when I was 19 years old. My mom was my everything, so when she kicked me out I didn’t know what to do. I was so angry at the world. But now that I’m not living with my mom anymore, our relationship is much better.

When I moved into Lincoln Place, everyone was really nice. My first day there, I took 6 showers because I hadn’t had a real shower in so long. It was amazing! Living at Lincoln place was really fun and I made great friends that will last a lifetime. The volunteer groups are awesome, playing games, having community dinner and holiday parties! The staff at Lincoln Place are really helpful too.

Being here gave me the chance to grow up and be independent.

I know this doesn’t seem like a big deal, but I can now go grocery shopping by myself and not freak out!

In the future, I’m moving to Alexandria, MN with my boyfriend. I want to get a job as a personal care assistant because I want to help people. I would love to eventually go to school to become a social worker.
