    • There were so many times I thought I couldn’t take it another day – I was so tired and had no hope in finding a place to stay.

      A school social worker referred Anna to The Link’s Lindquist Apartments Program after a friend’s mother found her sleeping in their garage. Anna told staff that she had been sleeping there for several months after fleeing an unsafe living situation with family. Despite her circumstances, Anna continued to attend school with perfect attendance. She was accepted at Lindquist, and staff found temporary housing for her while she waited for a move-in date. A week before moving in, Anna celebrated her 17th birthday and graduated from high school a year early. “I’m thankful I gave it a little more time – I have a home, support and feel better”. Anna is focusing on her physical and mental health before starting her R.N. program this fall.

      Before working with Northside Prevention, my life was not stable at all. I slept wherever I could and it made me feel very hopeless. Trying to finish school and being homeless felt like an impossible task, but my counselor was able to get me connected with The Link’s Northside Homeless Prevention Program.

      I started working with the housing team and they were able to help me find an apartment. When I received the call that my application was accepted, I was so happy because good things do not often happen to me. Now, I have been in my apartment for 2 months now and I am just starting to feel like I can rest because I was homeless for a very long time. I also was able to finish high school and get my diploma, so maybe it’s my time to win now.”
