About the Marshall Reed Youth Center

The Marshall Reed Youth Center (MRYC) was designed by and for youth who are between the ages of 14-21, identify as male, and are involved with juvenile probation in Hennepin County. Through groups and one-on-one services over the 12 week program, participants create and achieve goals in four key areas: Health and Wellness, Leadership and Positive Male Identity, Conflict Resolution and Relationships, and Educational and Economic Self-Sufficiency.

Services

The MRYC is a part of Hennepin County’s Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative, which was created to provide a path away from detention, further court involvement, and out-of-home placement.

The Link’s MRYC services are designed to build upon each youth’s strengths and resiliencies while providing structured, positive year-round activities during after school hours and on Saturdays, when the most juvenile crimes occur.

Youth participating in MRYC programming take part in groups and activities on topics including:

  • Living and leaving a legacy
  • Respecting women and girls
  • Masculinity and the media
  • Exploring emotions
  • Digging into substances
  • Life skills and learning responsibility
  • Engaging in education
  • Job readiness and money management
  • Healthy relationships and conflict resolution
  • Mentors, role models, heroes
