About School Matters
The School Matters Program provides intensive intervention through comprehensive one on one case management for youth who are experiencing truancy and at the highest risk of dropping out of school. Youth ages 12-17 are referred by Hennepin County and can work with The Link for three months or more depending on individual circumstances.
School Matters uses a comprehensive approach, recognizing truancy as a complex issue that needs a holistic response. Case managers provide youth with a positive, trusting adult relationship, connections to basic needs, mental/chemical health counseling, and more. Case managers also advocate for youth, helping with school choice and enrollment, school attendance, behavioral support, and credit recovery. By maintaining relationships within schools, staff can help youth navigate school systems and foster belonging within the school. School Matters also offers social-emotional and asset-building groups to strengthen skills and expose youth to new opportunities and connect with peers.
